ABOUT US

With over 15 years of experience in the field , Onbeyond offers clean, organized graphic design for a variety of global projects and media groups. Our services are not limited to one medium. We offer print service, web design and maintenance, audio/sound production, and video. We work in collaboration with a number of other artists, backend coders, videographers and audio engineers. Onbeyond brings a whole system solution to your project. No job is too complex… or too simple !

Onbeyond began as a seed, a dream that high level, eye catching, design could be brought to projects which did not normally get such a design treatment. Corporate techniques could be applied to projects which were not corporate: Design for the people. With the growth of advertising and the money involved, often great clients and projects would get lost in the miasma of finding an affordable designer who also understood that advertising is more than just marketing: it is a way of promoting lifestyles, ideas, and evolutionary values.

New Media is the message, and Onbeyond cares greatly about our clientele. In the buyer beware design market, we enfold an evolution of perception. We help you to understand new media, and to become a part of the process.

We aim to bring whole systems into focus, helping our clients find design which suits their projects and markets. This has always been a 100% collaborative process. Onbeyond chooses projects which demonstrate value to the development of culture in the world. We believe in positive evolution. This means that you, as the client, walk away feeling like you have not only gotten the design you asked for, but that you were a crucial part of it’s unfolding. Onbeyond climbs inside your mind to help bring the deepest visions to the surface.

Being the message involves becoming a medium. The design process begins and ends with you. Onbeyond acknowledges that every client has a vision which they wish to see manifested. We work to make sure that the vision you seek… is the one that you find.

Alex Grey and the Beastie Boys

gaia

In 1994, the Beastie Boys released one of their highest selling classic albums, Ill Communication. Nestled into the usual mix of high energy rap, hiphop, funk and punk was a painting of Alex Grey’s, at the center of the double album. Adam Yauch, a founding member of the group, was a practicing buddhist, introducing a young fan base to numerous spiritual ideas. Alex Grey would encounter Yauch  at Buddhist ceremonies and speaking engagements  with the Dalai Lama. (http://alexgrey.com/press-media/interviews/interview-for-the-examiner/). His influence on the group placed the painting “Gaia” at the core of the album’s packaging.

saying goodbye to winter

sleuth
There is a peak moment of every winter where I realize simultaneously that the season is in full swing, but that sadly it will also end. Unless you are a paid professional competing globally, involved in the industry or independently wealthy, the notion of a year long winter eludes the common folk. Most of the regular lovers of the snow, and fiends for the pow are at the mercy of the skies.

ISOLATION PEAK

jack1.
han shan understood isolation and emptiness. he sought it out. same with kerouac on desolation peak. but when jack descended from the mountain he was irreparably broken by loneliness. the kind of loneliness that hanshan was looking for beyond the red dust. the sombre and silent roar of an empty forest and the wisps of smoke curling upwards from the pipe. some of us seek refuge in the simplicity, the elimination of all concerns and appreciation for the splendour of even the most simple of things.

Logical Attractions and the Art of Evolution

PrintYou know, it was just too damn easy for ignorant people to make jokes about how the world did not end on Dec.21,2012. A lot of us watched feeds, internet blogs, newspapers, TV lit up with people saying “i told you so” as if somehow there was a culpable perpetrator of the new age myth that the world was supposed to end on that date.

Standing Sideways & Moving Forward

birth of a dream

sandy_sij_riders

Snowboarding collided with the world of my brother and I in 1986. We were a couple of kids who had spent half their lives on skis, at the top of a mountain. It was a  typical lake louise easter morning, not very crowded, spring day on the slopes . We were always happier when the lineups were smaller. A few snowboarders emerged at the top of Eagle Lift. This was a total rarity, and we stalked them for as long as we could. They were pros, jamie mosberg (mouse) and another dude from the Avalanche team. We knew their names because we had seen snowboards in ski magazines and on film. The ski industry was catching wind of this growing sport and allowing it on mountains. This was a true eye opener. We were in the presence of the beginning of the modern era of snowboarding. It was a time when there were literally 4 snowboarders on the hill at any time. We knew we had to do it. There was no question. It was hard to know where to begin.

Altruism & unabashed abstraction

it’s an unspeakable hour of the morning and i have woken to catch the early AM ferry from saltspring to vancouver. It’s a milkrun so it will allow me a good 3 hours to get some of the jumbled thoughts in order. I have to drive to Nelson today and i probably wont make it there until 10pm or later so i’m looking at a long day of being alone with my thoughts, as will be the drill for the next few months as i hunker down for a partnerless winter in a snowy interior bc town.

Currents Become Waves

fear-and-loathing
The acceleration of time towards the eschaton doesn’t phase me as much as it did when i first encountered the memes back in the 90’s. Earlier I wrote about Terrence McKenna as an influence on my early adult life. This post will expand on the field and lead right up to the moment i discovered the internet. It’s a brief history of time spent digging around the vaults of the esoteric writers, the fringe conspiracy nuts, the cultural commentators and critics who still remain relevant today. The point of this post is not to chronologically drop the names of influential authors, as it is to examine how interest in the subjects we choose will always increase the synchronicities around you regarding the subjects. When the subject of the book / information itself is synchronicity, things get abstractly synchronous, alarmingly fast. Before i read some of this literature, i was blissfully unaware that a rich tradition of lateral thinkers and philosophical edge surfers could exist. I was unaware of the timelords and trippers who were fiendishly compiling research decades after their psyhedelic illuminations in the 60’s. I had no idea what was out there outside of the school curriculum and what a kid in Regina Saskatchewan, son of an oilman, could get his hands on.
